Jason Mater, an Oregon State University student, visited weather stations in western Oregon and photographed the equipment and their surroundings. These stations are part of the "Cooperative network" administered by the National Weather Service and involving mostly private observers; there are over 200 such stations in Oregon. Some of the stations included here are also part of the Historical Climatology Network (HCN), a set of reference stations considered to be appropriate for long-term monitoring of climate. To be included in the HCN, a station had to be currently active, have at least 80 years of monthly temperature and precipitation data, and have experienced few station changes. |
